Method For Preparing Unniappam

  • 1.
  • Grate the jaggery into fine pieces and then add some water into it and bring it to heat.

  • 2.
  • Continue heating until the jaggery is melted. Allow it to cool.

  • 3.
  • Pour some ghee into a pan and add the coconut pieces into it. Fry it till golden brown.

  • 4.
  • Grind the bananas into a smooth paste and keep aside.

  • 5.
  • Mix together the rice powder, jaggery and banana puree in a bowl. Add some water to get a consistency of idili batter.

  • 6.
  • Add the coconut pieces into it. Also add some baking soda and mix well. Keep aside for fermentation for 2 hours.

  • 7.
  • Heat oil in a unniappachatti and pour a tablespoon of batter into each hole.

  • 8.
  • After 2 - 3 minutes turn the unniappam and cook until it turns golden brown.

  • 9.
  • Drain and serve hot.
